Hey with all due respect, you can say you enjoy speculating about people's sexuality without having to justify it with your struggle, I'm pan and I'm older than most people on tumblr but I've never felt the need to justify my engaging in fandom speculation with my desperation for representation or whatever? you risk diluting the lgbtq+ experience when you equate it to trivial projections. And in any case, this is a minor point but cuffing your jeans and such are funny stereotypes but they are just physical signifiers and that's a harmful way to categorise queer people.
Aight, huge tw for homophobia. I’ma talk about f1 and how much it sucks and I know a lot of people hate acknowledging that part
I get what you are saying. But I wasn’t “using my struggle to justify my speculation”.
1) My “speculation” was a joke. It wasn’t speculation at all. It wasn’t based on any valid facts. Im not saying “oh I think for sure Lando is bi and when he’s says otherwise he’s lying” I’m just joking around. Me “justifying” was actually just me ranting about how the community treats lgbt people, im not using that as an ‘excuse’ and i dont need to
2) hmmm “struggle” weird wording. I can’t find the words right now but like, that just sits weird with me. I was talking about a fact. There’s never been an openly gay f1 driver. That’s it. Fact. I don’t think I would call it “my struggle”. If anything it should be f1s problem not mine.

1) you say “trivial projections” as if that isn’t what makes up my whole blog and entire personality
2) okay so, I’m sorry but part of the “lgbt experience” whilst being an f1 fan is being increasingly hyper aware of the fact that no one is this community wants you here. Tumblr is a huge exception. That’s why I like this site, go literally anywhere else on social media or in the real world and you will face bigotry almost immediately
F1 announced the We Race As One campaign during pride month and they didn’t even mention the lgbt community. Which yeah pissed me off a bit but I’m used it, what is really fucked up? Is that the comment sections on every social media was full with blatant homophobia for weeks and no one did anything about it.  No official member mentioned anything at all, or even removed the comments. Just because f1 used a fake rainbow that isn’t even lgbt colours and “fans” got heated that there was a slight chance that maybe f1 might start supporting us.
And god am I fed up with having to put up with constant hetronormativity and casual homophobia
There’s never being a gay driver because they’re terrified that coming out means that they will definitely lose fans, but they could also lose sponsors which could lead them to losing their seat in the team or place in f1. If sponsors start pulling out then they have to let the driver go, even if the team has no problem with the drivers sexuality. We don’t really know the repercussions because no ones been brave enough to try. The potential back lash is that big.  A driver in the junior series or just starting out karting wouldn’t dare come out because that could be the only thing that stops them from making it to f1 and finally living their dream.
And holy fuck whenever someone brings up the lack of gay drivers, they are always told that “f1 is full of the best of the best” “maybe they just aren’t that good” “there’s just not any gay people that can drive well” “there’s just not enough gay people trying to get into motosport, maybe if more tried then someone will actually succeed” and they genuinely don’t understand that that is 100% complete bull shit. And I’m fed up of people acting like this is our fault because we don’t try hard enough
so please dont start acting like this is ‘my struggle’ or ‘trivial projections’ this isnt me saying “oh boohoo this mean old man wouldnt let me try go-karting because im gay :((( f1 is so homophobic lets boycott it for being problematic” this is happening in real life and is impacting so many people. not just drivers but also dictates how the whole world views f1, its fans, and motosport as a whole.
Tumblr media
Yes I know. That was the joke.
